Virginia Burchett, 80, formerly of Bloomington, IL passed away on Tuesday (Oct. 4, 2011).
Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 7, 2011) at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington, IL with Rev. Bradley Watkins officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Friday at Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel, Decatur, IL. Memorial contributions may be directed to West Olive Faith United Methodist Church or donor's choice.
Virginia was born on March 25, 1931 in Needmore, KY, the daughter of Jolly and Agnes (Russell) Simpson. She married George A. Burchett on October 12, 1951. He preceded her in death in 1965 in the Vietnam War. She was a long time member of West Olive Faith United Methodist Church, starting Sunday school there at age 7 and then taught Sunday school, was a board member, membership secretary and communion stewardess at the church. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star 50 of Bloomington, IL. She was a long time volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital, was an auxiliary board member and chairwoman of the heart pillows and tray favors. She and twelve other ladies made many heart pillows. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, flower gardens, group sales and traveling.
Surviving are her children: James (Connie) Burchett of Bloomington, IL, Georgina (Todd) Funk of Warrensburg, IL; sister: Shirley Roberts of Waukesha, WI; grandchildren: Chris (Janina) Burchett, Michael Rayburn, Emily (AJ) Boleyn, Jamie Burchett, Taylor Funk and Kaylee Funk; great grandchildren: Blake and Reese Burchett and Kyli Boleyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother: Glenn Lyle Simpson.
Virginia's family would like to thank DMH Hospice for all their help and support during this difficult time.

I volunteered with Virginia at St. Joe and it was a pleasure to work with her. She will be greatly missed and my sympathy and prayers goes out to the family.

Your loss is in my thoughts and prayers.  I was Virginia's hairdresser for over 20 years.  I was not only her hairdresser but a friend.  We enjoyed exchanging recipes, gardening and family ideas.

My sympathy to Virginia's family.  What a wonderful, dedicated volunteer and foundation member Virginia was to OSF St. Joseph Medical Center! She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and volunteered with her.
